She enrolled the English literature course, which was held in the evening. She did not mind attending the evening courses because her junior college was also an evening school. Moreover, she could slightly afford to go to university.
Just after graduating from high school, 18 year old girl whose jobs had been limited. She had worked at a small cafeteria in the college. 15 years later, however, she was a qualified junior high school teacher. So she worked during day time as a part time school teacher.
Nevertheless, it was quite hard for her to continue studying in the evening, which ended up making a living with scholarship (actually it was a student loan) and a three day a week part time job. "I wonder myself how to manage time or money at that time... " She looked back on the days. Changing the trains twice, it took approximately one and half hours from her place to the university. On the train, it was time to read books or do assignment. The first lecture began around 6 PM and the last one ended around 9 PM. "I think I always felt sleepy but I appreciated the chance to study at university. I loved such freedom."
There was also lucky news into her, which she was exempted one year tuition fees. Her university was run by the state whose awards students through the system. But as for the schorship, she must return. "I've been still returning little by little for a decade."
Ms. Kasuga was born in a family in which father was a school teacher as well as a buddhism monk and mother was a housewife. There were three sisters and she was the third daughter and the last one was her twin sister. Sisters grew up, some of whom got married and parents made a living with pension. It means that Ms. Kasuga must have been financially independent. Even such conditions, she was a student. People sometimes told her like, "You are lucky enough to live in your own way." Or "You are living with such freedom, which might be selfish." But Ms. Kasuga said, "No, I didn't mean to be selfish. I never knew other ways of living. I only knew this way."
